You may not use Cyber
City Residental Service for a commercial venture of any nature.
You agree not to resell or redistribute any
form of access to Cyber City. Cyber City reserves the right to disconnect your service if
you fail to comply with these guidelines.
Cyber City has allocated one Internet
Protocol (IP) address for your computer (using DHCP). During the installation process,
this IP address will be downloaded to your computer. You should not alter, modify or
tamper with your IP address. If you do make any changes, your Internet access will stop
working. Cyber City Maui/Cyber City Honolulu reserves the right to terminate your service
if you deliberately make changes to your IP address.
Our network operations center uses a
utility called Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) so that IP addresses may be
dynamically allocated, alleviating the need for static IP addressing. In order for this
DHCP addressing to function properly, your computer Transmission Control Protocol/Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) stacks must support DHCP. For this reason, Macintosh users must use Open
Transport (v. 1.1) and PC users must run Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT. Anyone who
uses your computer to access Cyber City Service must follow the guidelines of the service.
Changing Computers And Utilizing Home LANs
If you purchase a new computer or decide you would like to change the dedicated computer
your DSL modem connects to, you must first contact Customer Service. This action is
required because our network matches the IP address in the DSL modem and your computer
with the MAC layer address in your Ethernet card. As a result, the DSL modem and Cyber
City server software must be reconfigured to communicate properly with your new computer.
Also, if you change residences, you must contact Customer Service to establish a new
account. Your current service is not transferable to a new location. There may be a
charges to complete this service change between computers. For the same reason described
above, Cyber City is not compatible and will not work with such services as Oceanic's Road
Runner. Each computer accessing Cyber City Service must have its own individual IP
address.
Use Of The DSL Modem (If Renting) The DSL
modem is owned by GTE and remains GTE's property when placed in your home. During
installation, the technicians will not connect the DSL modem to your computer and place
it in a location that is as convenient as possible.
Please take care not to damage the
equipment. GTE will repair any equipment free of charge if it fails in normal use.
Moving, relocating, altering, selling,
leasing, or tampering with the equipment is strictly prohibited. If an DSL modem is
damaged in your home due to negligence or abuse you may be charged to repair the
equipment. The tampering with any DSL equipment to receive unauthorized services is a
federal crime and is punishable by fine, imprisonment or both. If you have any questions
concerning proper treatment of your DSL modem, contact Customer Service via e-mail.
Cyber City Service is not intended to be
used to enable persons under 18 years of age to obtain material that is prohibited by law
to be sent or displayed, including material deemed indecent or obscene.
