Configuration of Microsoft Outlook 98 to handle Internet E-mail

This procedure will provide the necessary instructions to configure Microsoft Outlook 98 to send and receive Internet E-mail. Outlook 98 is a very powerful communications application, and is capable of many functions. Please consult your manual or the available help files in the program for using it's other features.

It is assumed that you have already configured a dial-up networking connection.

Procedure:

1. Start Microsoft Outlook 98.

2. Cancel any wizard set-ups that start.

3. From the TOOLS menu, select ACCOUNTS.

4. Click the MAIL tab.

5. Click the ADD button, then point at and click on MAIL. An add account wizard will start.

6. On the first window, enter your name in the box marked "Display name". Click NEXT.

7. In this window, enter your e-mail address. Click NEXT.

8. In the next window, select "POP3" as the type of mail server that you use, and enter pop.ccmaui.com in BOTH the Incoming and
Outgoing mail server name boxes. Click NEXT.

9. In the nest window, click where it says "Log on using:" and type in your username where it says "POP account name". Type in your password. Click NEXT.

10. Where it asks for a friendly name for your Internet mail account, type in "Cyber City Mail". Click NEXT.

11. In the next window, choose "I connect using my phone line" if you are a modem customer, or "Connect using my local area network (LAN)" if you are an ADSL customer. Click NEXT.

12. (Modem only) In the next window, make sure that your modem is displayed in the box. If necessary, pull down the menu and select your modem. Click NEXT.

13. (modem only) In the next box, click "Use an existing dial-up connection" and select your Cyber City Connection. Click NEXT.

14. In the next box, click FINISH.

15. In the Internet Accounts window, select "Cyber City Mail" and then click PROPERTIES.

16. Click on the ADVANCED tab.

17. If you want to leave messages on the server for later retrieval at a different location, click "Leave a copy of messages on server". Click OK

18. On the "Internet Accounts" window, click CLOSE.

19. From the TOOLS menu, select OPTIONS.

20. Under the "Mail Delivery" tab, click "Send messages immediately" and click "Check for new messages every" and enter 5 minutes.

21. Under the "Mail Format" tab, pull down the menu next to "Send in this message format:" and select HTML.

22. Under the "Spelling" tab, we recommend that you select all of the General options.

23. Under the "Other" tab, click "Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting".

24. Click OK.

25. To check your mail, connect to Cyber City, then start Outlook 98. The program will automatically check your mail at once, then every 5 minutes after that.
